This article presents information about both the composition and jurisdiction of the Court
of Justice of the European Union and the procedure before it, accompanied by related
English terminology. The article also presents a table with terminology in four official
languages of the European Union (namely Polish, English, French and German) relating
to the procedure before the Court. All of the chosen terminological units were extracted
from the Statute and the Rules of Procedure of the Court. Presented description of the
Court and terminology related to the procedure before it is meant to show the complexity
and difficulty of work performed by lawyer-linguists and to convince the reader that being
aware of the substantive, institutional and procedural aspects common to both EU and
state courts, and basic terminology might be useful in the work of a sworn translator.
