(Im)migrants, Asylum Seekers and Refugees – the English Terminology in European Union Legislative Acts with Polish Equivalents

Abstract

The article presents an overview of English migration policy terms extracted from European
Union legislative acts and accompanied by their Polish equivalents. The first part
discusses basic definitions connected with migrations. The main part of the paper is an
English-Polish glossary of the basic terminology related to immigrants, asylum seekers
and refugees that is used in European Union legislative acts. The last section discusses
several examples of different equivalents in the context of European Union texts, UN documents,
or domestic law.
