Certification formula used by sworn translators in Poland – common practice and recommendations in the light of the Act on the Profession of Sworn Translator

Mirosław Moczulski

Abstract

The author argues that the certification formulas commonly used by Polish sworn translators
– including those recommended by the Code of Sworn Interpreter and Translator
(ed. 2011), the State Examination Board, established to examine sworn translator and
interpreter candidates and other such bodies or sources – are in fact insufficient in the
light of the Act of 25 November 2004 on the Profession of Sworn Interpreter and Translator
as they lack precision and internal order. The author advocates a modified version of the
certification formula, minimalistic both in its form and content. Six different variations of
this new formula are presented, all of which may be further expanded while still conforming
to the Act.
